On January 22, fans said farewell to the hit revival of Follies starring Bernadette Peters, Jan Maxwell, Danny Burstein, Ron Raines, Elaine Paige, Terri White, Jayne Houdyshell, Mary Beth Peil and Rosalind Elias. Broadway.com asked readers to vote for which star most deserves a Tony nomination for their work in the acclaimed production. The votes are in, and readers narrowed down the list of talented theater veterans to the three actors they would like to see walk the red carpet at this year's Tony ceremony on June 10. Take a look at the results below.
1. Jan Maxwell - 60%
Four-time Tony nominee (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Coram Boy, The Royal Family and Lend Me a Tenor) Jan Maxwell shined as the disenchanted Phyllis Rogers Stone. For her work in Follies, Broadway.com included Maxwell on our Top 5 Unforgettable Performances of 2011 list and her emotionally raw “Could I Leave You” made our Top 10 Showstopping Moments of 2011. Will Tony voters agree?
2. Bernadette Peters – 16%
Bernadette Peters is a seven-time Tony nominee and a two-time Tony winner (Annie Get Your Gun and Song and Dance). Her haunting rendition of the Sondheim torch song “Losing My Mind” in Follies may be enough to secure her a spot in the running for the big prize.
3. Danny Burstein – 9%
Danny Burstein received two Tony nominations in the past (for The Drowsy Chaperone and South Pacific) and his energetic and heartbreaking performance as Buddy Plummer may garner him a third nomination for Follies.
Thanks for voting!
